Joseph S. Romano Obituary

Joseph S. Romano, 89, of Moonachie died on Monday, September 23, 2024.  Born on his mother's 36th birthday and raised in the Marion section of Jersey City to the late Giuseppe and Anna (nee Lombard), Joseph lived in Union City for a time before moving to Moonachie 46 years ago. Joseph was a truck driver with Teamsters locals 641 and 408 as well as a driver for Wooleyhan Transport, Channel Lumber, and Toys R Us.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Geraldine (nee Maggio), his son Joseph A. of Clifton, his daughter Michele and her husband Robert Sanger of Emerson, sister-in-law Annabelle Romano of North Carolina, and many nieces, nephews, god children, and their families, including great- grand niece Winnie, who brought “Uncle Joe” much happiness these last months.  Joseph is predeceased by his siblings and their spouses, Rose and Michael Volpe, Frank and Anne Romano, Mary and Vito Mazza, Blaise and Marie Romano, Gennaro Romano and Gloria and Bernard Mc Nulty.

A true Renaissance Man, Joe had many hobbies and interests that kept his life and everyone's life around him interesting. He enjoyed a special camaraderie with his hunting friends, who brought him their game so he could expertly prepare the meat- a skill he learned during his army days in Germany.  Joe enjoyed meeting people who spoke Italian, German, and Spanish so he could practice his skills. He particularly enjoyed speaking the Neopolitan dialect.  He was always ready and willing to share a funny story, a proverb, or a nugget of advice. He always was willing to lend a hand, give some advice, or do a favor for family, friends, and neighbors.  Joe truly lived by the role of "Do unto others." Joe's hospitality was legendary. Together with his wife,  "Gerry," Joe hosted family and friends through the years.

Christmas Eve was his holiday and his spectacular, "Everyone is welcome." New Year's Eve parties are spoken of frequently and fondly. Joe's presence and personality were larger than life and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
