Julia "Morena" Mejia Obituary

Julia Evangelina “Morena” Mejia
September 21, 1967 – May 6, 2025

Julia Evangelina “Morena” Mejia, born on September 21, 1967, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, passed away surrounded by her loved ones. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose vibrant spirit touched all who knew her.

Daughter of the late Carmen Santana Valdez and Jose Valdez, Julia was one of nine siblings and is preceded in death by her brothers Lino Santana and Rafael Santana. She is survived by her cherished children, Jean Carlos Mejia and Janire Mejia; her adored grandchildren, Nova Devera and Charlotte Mejia; and her beloved siblings Carmen Santana, Conrado Santana, Julio Santana, and Yolanda Santana. She also leaves behind a loving extended family including nieces, nephews, in-laws, and many dear friends.

Julia was raised in Santo Domingo and later immigrated to Jersey City, New Jersey, where she spent most of her life raising her family. In her later years, she chose to retire in the Bronx, New York.

A true matriarch, Julia lived a life full of warmth, resilience, and joy. She was passionate about cooking, a talented crocheter, and a lover of music, travel, and dancing. Known for her impeccable sense of style, Julia proudly considered herself a fashionista. More than anything, she cherished time spent with family and friends, always ensuring that those around her felt loved and welcomed.

Julia’s personality was as bold as it was beautiful. She was intelligent, strong-willed, and deeply compassionate. Her humor, warmth, and humility left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

The Mejia family extends heartfelt thanks to all who stood by Julia in her final moments and to everyone who has shown their love and support during this difficult time. Her loving spirit and the joy she brought into our lives will forever remain in our hearts.
