Julio Suarez Sr.

Julio Suarez Sr., born on July 18, 1951, in Cayey, Puerto Rico, passed away surrounded by his loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and leadership. He was the beloved son of the late Carlos and Eufemia Suarez and spent 65 years calling Jersey City, NJ, his home.

A proud graduate of James J. Ferris High School, Class of 1971, Julio dedicated his life to shaping young athletes. He served as the Head Baseball Coach at St. Mary’s High School in Jersey City for 10 years and was an Honorary Board Member of the Roberto Clemente Little League since 1974. His passion for the game and commitment to his community led him to serve as a two-time president during the 1988 NJ State Little League Championship season. Over 50 years, he coached multiple championship teams, including the Jersey J’s Football/Baseball, the Clemente Pirates (4B’s), the Minor and Senior League Yankees, and the Jersey City Reds, who proudly claimed the NJ State Championship.

Julio was a true sports enthusiast, always cheering for his Baltimore Orioles and Oakland Raiders. He had a deep love for baseball, horse racing, and boxing, but above all, he cherished spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Lucy Suarez; his loving children, Julio Suarez Jr., Sandra Suarez, and Jennifer Suarez; and his adored grandchildren, Modesto Sanchez Jr., Julio Suarez III, and Laila Suarez. He also leaves behind his brothers, Hector Suarez, Charlie Suarez, and Jose Suarez, who will carry on his memory.

Julio now reunites in heaven with his parents, Carlos and Eufemia Suarez, his brother William Suarez, and his sister Carmen Feliciano.

Julio was more than just a coach—he was a mentor, a protector, and a leader. His passion, loyalty, and unwavering love for those around him will never be forgotten. His name and legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Visitation is Monday, March 24, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Riotto Funeral Home (For GPS, please use our parking lot address: 14 Stagg Street, Jersey City, NJ 07306). Funeral services are Tuesday, 10:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a 11:30 AM mass at St. Anne's Church, Jersey City. Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City, NJ.
