Katarzyna “Kathy” Hyra (Demianycz) 76, of Branchburg, entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 5, 2021 at her home peacefully with her loving husband by her side. Katarzyna was born in Zdynia, Poland and emigrated to the United States of America in 1966. She lived in Jersey City, where she met her husband of 52 years, Stefan Hyra. They then moved to Garwood in 1986 and resided there until moving to Branchburg in 2017 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Katarzyna was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She especially loved being a Babcia to Andrea, Stephen & Olivia who were the light of her life. She was a vibrant woman who enjoyed singing, dancing and cooking traditional Lemko/Ukrainian foods for the holidays and celebrations with family and friends.
Katarzyna worked at Mueller’s Pasta Company in Jersey City for many years. Then becoming a mother, she took great pride in raising her two cherished sons. Lastly, Katarzyna was employed at Hoffman La Roche in Nutley where she retired after many years of dedicated service. She was a lifelong parishioner of SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, a member of CYM and the Organization for the Defense of Lemkivshchyna in Jersey City.
Katarzyna is survived by her loving husband, Stefan; her son, Steven and his wife, Marianne with grandchildren, Andrea & Stephen; her son, Mark and his wife, Wendy with grandchild, Olivia; her sisters, Anna Wroblewska & Maria Karlyk; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren. Katarzyna was preceded in death by her parents, John & Martha (Marycz) Demianycz and brothers Michael, Stefan, Petro and Szymon.
While we are deeply saddened by the loss of one of the pillars in our family, we are thankful for the blessing of having Katarzyna in our life.
