In Loving Memory of Lawrence James Buntin July 9, 1945 – December 16, 2024
Larry, a beloved partner, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024, in his hometown of Jersey City, NJ. Born on July 9, 1945, in Bayonne, New Jersey, he lived a life of adventure, passion, and joy, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.
A graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, Larry served his country in the U.S. Army. He began his professional journey in advertising, where his creativity and charisma flourished. Later, he found his true calling in real estate, putting together commercial deals, sharing his love for beautiful spaces.
Larry was a man who truly loved life. Known as the life of the party, he had an infectious enthusiasm and was always ready for a good time. He had a passion for cooking, taking great joy in preparing meals for family and friends. His eclectic home, decorated with art that reflected his vibrant personality, was a warm and welcoming space that mirrored his creative spirit.
Larry enjoyed traveling abroad and at one point or another lived on every coast of the United States, creating memories and friendships wherever he went. He was also committed to his community, actively supporting the Human Rights Campaign and the arts, including his involvement with the Jersey City Theater.
Larry is survived by his devoted partner of 23 years, Nick Simone; his former wife, Sharon Buntin, with whom he shared a meaningful chapter of his life. His brother Lynn Buntin and his family. His daughter, Lara, and son-in-law, Bob Poulos; and he relished his role as “Grandpa” to his grandsons Manny and Max, who brought much joy to his life. He truly cherished his extended family, whom he reconnected with upon returning to his “roots” in Jersey City, where he spent the last two decades of his life. He also loved and cherished countless friends who enriched his life.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Leslie Buntin, parents Lawerence and Helen Buntin and earlier this year his son Jason Buntin.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Saturday, December 21st 1-3pm at Riotto Funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Human Rights Campaign or Jersey City Theater in his honor.
Larry will be remembered for his zest for life, lighting up any room he entered, and his love of family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
