Leonora Augustina Wright Lindo
April 7, 1939 ~ July 23, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Leonora Agustina Wright Lindo. Born on April 7, 1939, she was born to the late Joseph Cornelius Wright and Ruth Retalia Harrison Lindo in Bocas del Toro, Panama. Leonora lived a life full of dedication and service to others. She graduated from the Rufo A. Garay Institute in Colón, Panama, and went on to work for over 30 years as a cook at the Post Exchange, a store operated by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service on US Army posts within the Panama Canal Zone.
In 1986, Leonora moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she successfully completed the Home Health Aide program. She dedicated the next decade of her life to caring for the elderly as a home health aide with Best Care in New York. Her career was cut short when she injured her back while providing her loving and compassionate care.
Leonora was a devoted Buddhist and found joy in gardening and cooking for her loved ones. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family, as she built meaningful relationships and offered help to everyone she met. She was a beloved pillar of the community, known for her generosity and kindness to everyone in the neighborhood. Leonora had a profound impact on young adults, often offering sage advice and life lessons that guided and inspired them. She will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her work, her compassion for those she cared for, and her loving spirit.
Leonora is survived by her children Jaime A. Planes, Adriano Ortega, Gabriel R. Ortega, and Hilda L. Ortega; her grandchildren Jaime Planes Jr., Adyani Planes, Guadalberto Planes, Yumitsi Ortega, Laura Harris Ortega, Stephanie Ortega, Adriano Ortega Jr., Sharema Ortega, Alex Taylor, Omar Ortega, Gabriel Ortega Jr., Israel Ortega, Reyna Ortega, Israel Robinsion Ortega, Alex Edwards, and Reyna Edwards; and her 28 great-grandchildren whom she loved and adored. She is also survived by her nine siblings: Tomas Wright, Angelina Wright, Enrique Wright, Jose Wright, Francisca Wright, Herminia Lindo, Anibal Hansell Lindo, Joyce Hansell Jenkins, Otilda Hansell Charles, and Joyce Hawkins. . In addition, she leaves behind many bonus grandchildren that she took in and loved as her own. She is also survived by 27 nieces and nephews, 42 great-grand nieces and nephews, and a host of great-great nieces and nephews, many of whom she loved and raised as her own. Affectionately known as Tia Lea, she was a cherished figure in their lives. Lovingly submitted by the family.
Visitation is Monday, July 29, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Riotto Funeral Home and Cremation Company, 3205 Kennedy Boulevard, Jersey City, NJ 07306., (For GPS navigation, it is best to use our parking lot address: 14 Stagg Street). Cremation is private.
