Louis D. Sandomenico, age 78, a lifelong resident of Jersey City, NJ, passed away Friday, September 18, 2026. He was born May 6, 1948, in Hudson County, son of the late Louis M. and Frances Sandomenico.
Louis had many professions throughout his life. He worked as a bus driver, correction officer and as a superintendent of a local cemetery. He mostly enjoyed his years of driving, whether it was the old local fishbowl bus or the tour bus to Atlantic City, NJ. He was very proud of his professional driving skills.
Whether you knew him as Louis, Lou, Louie or Sandy (from his driving days) he enjoyed very simple things, like a good home cooked meal, his pipe with Captain Black Tobacco or a cigar, playing the lottery and a good cup of coffee with a buttered roll. He especially enjoyed watching the old movies from The Golden Age of Hollywood, especially the 1950's Sci-fi movies, one of his favorites was {The Thing}.
He delighted in joking around with everyone, he was a teller of tales, had a quick wit and could make you laugh until your sides hurt. He had a nickname for everyone. Heaven is surely gaining a comedic soul.
Louis is survived by his former wife Janice Jakowski Sandomenico, his daughter Joyce Sandomenico-Hill (husband Joe Hill), his daughter Donna Sandomenico-Smith, and his son James Dimattina (wife Angelika Dimattina)
His grandchildren Joseph Murphy, Nicole Gangwish (husband Jessy Gangwish), Makayla Sandomenico and Emma Olivia Smith.
His great-grandchildren Giovanni Carpin and Gianna Davis.
His brothers Patrick Sandomenico, Ernest Sandomenico and Peter Sandomenico.
And many nieces, nephews and cousins. He especially enjoyed spending time with his nephews David and Mark Sandomenico.
Louis found eternal peace alongside his parents Louis M. and Frances Sandomenico, his brother Richard Sandomenico, his brother Rocco Sandomenico and his former partner Donna Dimattina.
We would also like to express our gratitude and appreciation to the ICU staff at Jersey City Medical Center for their support and guidance through this most difficult time.
Louis will be greatly missed by all that knew him, thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. May he rest in peace. Amen
