Lucia Manzo (née D’Angelo), 92, of the Marion Section of Jersey City, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Salcito, Campobasso, Italy, to the late Giovanni D’Angelo and Domenica Cirelli, Lucia immigrated to the United States in 1954 with her beloved husband, Domenico Manzo, shortly after their marriage. The couple began their life together in Downtown Jersey City before settling in the Marion Section, where they raised their five children and built a warm and welcoming home filled with love, laughter, and the rich traditions of their Italian heritage.
Lucia was a talented and hardworking seamstress with the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (I.L.G.W.U.) for over 30 years. Following her retirement from garment work, she continued to serve her community as a food service worker with the Jersey City Board of Education. A devout parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Lucia’s faith and service were central to her life.
Known for her exceptional cooking and nurturing spirit, Lucia found great joy in preparing homemade Italian meals, often with fresh ingredients from the garden she lovingly tended alongside her husband. Her culinary gifts brought family and friends together and created lasting memories around the dinner table. More than anything, Lucia cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she showered them with endless love and pride.
Lucia is survived by her devoted husband of over 70 years, Domenico Manzo; her loving children, Filomena and Tony Corrente, Michael J. Manzo, Gabriel Manzo, Angelina Krueger, John and Judith Manzo, and Frank Manzo and his fiancée, Lisa Basile; her 10 treasured grandchildren and 8 cherished great-grandchildren; her dear siblings, Carmela and Florindo Berardo, and Nicola and Patrice D’Angelo; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends.
She is predeceased by her siblings Filomena Cirelli, Christina Tomba, and Antonio D’Angelo.
