Lucia "Lucy" Ramos (nee Rivera) passed peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on December 20, 1937 in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Her family moved to the Bronx, NY when Lucy was seven. It was in the Bronx that she met her husband of 42 years, Nestor R. Ramos. Lucy worked as a Cutting Machine Operator in the Garment District for 37 years. She then worked as a Visiting Homemaker throughout Jersey City for another 13 years and then privately for several more years.
She was affectionately called "Mama Lucy" by family and friends. She lived her life with an open heart and enjoyed cooking for everyone. She was an expert at cooking Spanish food and equally adept at cooking Italian, Chinese, and Americana cuisines. In addition to cooking, Lucy loved crocheting while watching the New York Yankees.
Lucy was sharp and known for her quick, witty responses. She was a jokester and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially during the holidays. She loved dancing and could dance anyone under the table.
Lucy joins her husband, Nestor (predeceased 1996), and her son-in-law, Ray (2018) and infant great grandson, Rafael J. Velazquez (2009). She is survived by her loving daughters, Naomi Velazquez (nee Ramos) and Joy Ramos; three grandchildren, William P. Leonard, Rafael R. Velazquez (Marlyn Rivera Velazquez), and Lisette N. Gadsen (Corey Gadsen); five great grandchildren, Elaijah N. Colon, Sophia J. Velazquez, Marliann N. Rodriguez, Jazmine K. Ortiz, Dante Colon and her sister, Maria Rosario. She will be missed by many other family members and the countless friends she made during her long, beautiful life.
