With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Luis A. Garced, Sr., who left us on June 1, 2025, in Jersey City, the city he proudly called home for most of his life. Born on August 18, 1962, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Luis moved to Jersey City at a young age, where his roots grew deep and his legacy flourished.
Luis was the beloved son of the late Miguel A. Garced and Margarita Torres, and brother of the late Orlando Garced. He is survived by his children: Sasha M. Garced; Luis A. Garced, Jr. and his fiancée Crystal D. Castillo; and Brenda Rodriguez. He was a proud grandfather to Dasten, Leilani, and Luzander, who brought endless joy to his life. Also surviving is his former wife, Ana Garced, with whom he remained close, as well as his loving siblings: Marilyn Garced; Elizabeth Acevedo and her husband David; Michael Garced and his wife Isabel; and Samuel Torres and his wife Shanita; along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
For over 23 years, Luis dedicated himself to serving the community as a proud employee of the Hudson County Roads Department. His hard work, commitment, and strong work ethic were a reflection of the same values he carried into every aspect of his life.
Luis was a man whose life was defined by love — for his family, his children, and especially his grandchildren. His warmth was magnetic, and children were naturally drawn to his playful, gentle spirit. His nieces, Alexandra N. Colon, Jovanna V. Garced, Jessica Acevedo, Melissa Acevedo, and Stephanie Garced, held a special place in his heart, each affectionately called “Baby Girl,” a name they will forever cherish.
Luis had a passion for building models, collecting comic books and figurines, and immersing himself in his favorite Star Trek episodes, western films, and classic cartoons. But above all, the moments he treasured most were those spent surrounded by his family — they were his world.
His laughter filled every room, his kindness made everyone feel welcome, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends are invited to honor Luis’s life at Riotto Funeral Home (For GPS, please use our parking lot address: 14 Stagg Street, Jersey City, NJ 07306), on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home, followed by interment at Bayview Cemetery, Jersey City.
Luis leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, laughter, and devotion. His spirit will continue to shine through his family and all who loved him.
