Luis Gutierrez of Jersey City, New Jersey, formerly of Ayacucho, Peru, passed away on November 12, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born on November 5, 1945, to the late Silvestre Gutiérrez and Ynocencia Durand, Luis grew up in Ayacucho before moving to Lima, Peru, where he built a wonderful life surrounded by family, music, and laughter. In the early 90's he and his family immigrated to Jersey City, where he continued to share his warmth, kindness, and optimistic spirit with everyone he met.
Luis was known for his gracious nature and his ever-present smile. He carried himself with quiet humility and a calm demeanor that made those around him feel at ease. He loved music and often filled the home with his singing and guitar playing. The outdoors brought him joy, whether walking, spending time by the water, or enjoying the sunshine at the beach. Luis also found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, reading newspapers and magazines, enjoying good food, and most of all, being surrounded by the family he cherished so deeply.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Maria Gutierrez, his loving children, Yesica Gutierrez, Andy Gutierrez, and America Ammar, and his adoring grandchildren, Yasmin, Nabila, Omar, and Alexi. He will also be deeply missed by his brothers, Idelfonso, Basilides, Tomas, Wilfredo, and Jose Gutierrez. Luis was predeceased by his beloved son in law, Abdel-Hamid Ammar.
Luis’s optimism, kindness, and gentle soul touched countless hearts. His memory will continue to live on through the love he gave and the joy he shared.
