Maria L. Martinez

Maria L. Martinez, 60, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Maria was born in Athens, Greece and came to America with her parents as a little girl. She grew up in Queens NY before moving to Jersey City. Maria worked at the Lincoln Inn for many years as well as the Miss America Diner, where her coworkers became her second family. 

Maria is predeceased by her parents Loukas and Elenora Golemates, as well as her husband and children's father, Ralph Martinez. Later in life she married retired Lieutenant James Hoppes of the Essex county narcotics unit in 2018 and was married until his passing in 2020. She was a wonderful, dedicated mom who adored  her two children Maria Martinez and Michael Martinez as well as her daughter in law Kerri Kerr. Maria was a loving  yia yia to her two grandsons Marcus Reyes and Justice Nieves who were her entire world. She also leaves behind many friends including Millie Gilyard and Sofia Tsakos who were like sisters to her. Maria was a wonderful woman who will be missed by so many. 

Visitation will be held Friday, September 20, 2024, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at RIOTTO FUNERAL HOME & Cremation Company, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07306. For GPS Navigation it is best to use our parking lot entrance address: 14 Stagg St., Jersey City. Cremation will be private.
