The world lost a beloved mother, Marie Lang (nee McAlinden), 89 of Jersey City as she passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family on October 26, 2023. Marie was predeceased by her husband, Thomas “Buddy” Lang and brothers: Patrick, Matthew (Norma), and Brian McAlinden.
She devoted her life to her family and is survived by her 10 children: Tom Lang, Maureen (Bill) Mack, Eileen (Scott) Harwood, Kevin (Kathy) Lang, Brian (Meredith) Lang, Christina Lang (Gene King), Kelly Bertrand, Kathy (Dan) LaGrone, Dennis (Bernadette) Lang, Michael Lang (Cindy Pignotti). Marie is survived by her beloved brother Chris (Dolores) McAlinden, her beloved sister Eileen (Joe) Gigantino, and her sisters in law, Claire McAlinden and Mary McAlinden.
Marie was a proud and caring grandmother of: Morgan, Casey (Vinny), Taylor (Paul), Krysten Jaime), Laura, Stuart, Matthew, Meaghan, Jennifer, Elle, Jessica, Michael, Julia, Kaitlyn, Aidan (Hannah), and John. She was a very doting great grandma of: Mackenzie, Maggie, EJ, Alex, Jake, Nora, Reagan, Avery, Paul and Colin. She is also celebrated by many loved ones including many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the U.S. and Ireland.
Born in the JC Heights neighborhood and a lifelong resident: Marie was extremely proud of her Jersey City upbringing as well as her Irish heritage. Marie was a parishioner of St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, where she remained a faithful member of the congregation for 68 years. She was a long serving member of St. Anne’s School Association and received an award for her outstanding contribution to the St. Anne’s family.
She was a faithful member of the Rosary Society and a loyal supporter of the Sisters of Charity. A sweet, smart, witty and fun-loving woman, Marie “Mama” Lang enjoyed doing everything with her family, loved to travel, going to concerts and shows, listening to live music, sing-a-longs to her favorite music and winning numerous family talent shows. Her zest for life brought many laughs and fun to all who were in her company. She was most admired for her strength and resilience and that will live on as her legacy. Mama Lang will be missed most for her big loving smile and her selflessness to her family and her Jersey City community. The many cherished memories will live on forever in our hearts. You will be loved always and forever Mama Lang.
Visitation is Sunday, October 29, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Riotto Funeral Home & Cremation Company, 3205 Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ. (For GPS navigation, it is best to use our parking lot address 14 Stagg Street). Funeral is Monday, October 30, 2023 at 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at funeral home. Funeral mass is at 11:00 AM at St. Anne’s Church, 3545 Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Road, N. Arlington.
