Mario Anthony Altamura, 87, passed away peacefully in his home on April 21st, 2023. He was born on August 6th, 1935, in Brooklyn, NY to Mauro and Pasqua Altamura, both of whom immigrated from Bari, Italy. He was the beloved husband of Maria for over 60 years and devoted father of Maureen and Michael. Mario was also a proud grandfather to Stephanie, Krystina, Alison, Michael, Robert, Nicholas, and Anthony.
Mario had a close-knit family, which included his siblings Nicoletta Sciancalepore, Lucy DePalma, and Marie Bugasch. He often spoke fondly of his Italian heritage and enjoyed cooking traditional Italian dishes for his family and friends. His love for food and laughter were two of his defining characteristics, and he would often regale those around him with stories and jokes.
Mario was a devoted husband to Maria, and a loving father to his children, Maureen and Michael. His grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy, and he was proud of all of their accomplishments.
Mario will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, and his legacy of love, laughter, and family will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 28, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Riotto Funeral Home and Cremation Company, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd, Jersey City, NJ, 07306 (For GPS it is best to use the address of our parking lot: 14 Stagg St., Jersey City). Funeral will begin on Saturday, April 29th at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Jersey City. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum, North Arlington.
