Mary Marmora (nee Zingaro), 96, a lifelong resident of Jersey City and Elberon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 15, 2021. Mary was a gracious , loving person, who was a master of the culinary arts and hostess extraordinaire. She was loved by all who met her and a friend to all. Mary was especially loved by her many nieces and nephews.
Mary grew up with 4 older brothers and was a no-nonsense take no excuses person. She was also known for her spunky one-liners which brought endless smiles to the people around her. Mary was a lover of the arts and danced whenever possible.
Mary's husband, Joseph established the Imperial Shoe Store in Jersey City in 1946. She assisted him daily in the expansion of the brand. After graduating Dickinson High School, Mary began her career in New York City, working for I.M. Singer and Company. She was employed there as a demonstrator until she was married.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Joseph P. Marmora, Sr.; devoted mother of Janine Piscitello and her husband Gregory, their 3 children Lauren & husband Ryan McSweeney, Alyssa, and Matthew, Joseph Marmora, Jr. and his wife Marianne, their 2 children Michael & wife Liz and Allison & husband Jimmy. Also survived by 5 loving great-grandchildren, Arianna, Evelina, Taylor, Madison and Luca. She was the last survivor of her 4 brothers, Nicky, Joseph, John, and Angelo. She is also survived by her devoted caregiver, Ella.
Visitation is on Thursday, May 20, 2021, 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at RIOTTO FUNERAL HOME & Cremation Company, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07306. Funeral Mass is on Friday, May 21, 2021, 10:00 AM at Holy Rosary Church, 344 6th St., Jersey City, NJ 07302. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington.
