With love and gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Michael Nguyen (Nguyen Hoang Tuan) announces his passing on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at his home in Jersey City, New Jersey, surrounded by those who loved him deeply.
Born on December 3, 1969, in Saigon, Vietnam, Michael’s life was one of devotion, resilience, and compassion. He immigrated to the United States in 1988, making a home in Brooklyn, New York, where he spent over two decades before moving to Jersey City in 2010. His life was guided by the peaceful values of his Buddhist faith, which he carried with humility and grace.
Michael will be remembered for his cheerful spirit, gentle nature, meticulous attention to detail, and deep patience. He brought a calming presence into every space he entered and approached life with thoughtfulness, kindness, and quiet strength. He loved spending time with family, traveling, keeping up with current events, and unwinding with his favorite shows. He was also an enthusiastic Candy Crush player—reaching an incredible level 10,244—a lighthearted achievement that brought him joy and amusement.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sophia Nguyen, and their two beloved children, John and Kelly Nguyen, along with his loyal dog Unu, who remained faithfully by his side. Michael is also survived by his siblings: Tuyet Nguyen and her husband Day Ngo, Phi H. Nguyen and his wife Anh Thi Luu, Lieng Nguyen, Kimchi Huynh, Maggie Tu and her husband Tuong Tu, and Kimle Roberts and her husband Kenneth Roberts.
He now joins his predeceased siblings in peaceful rest: Thich Hai Quang, Kimhue Nguyen, Minh Hoang Nguyen, and Tung Hoang Nguyen.
A service to honor and reflect upon Michael’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Riotto Funeral Home, located at 14 Stagg Street, Jersey City, NJ 07306 (please use this address for GPS). Cremation will follow at Hudson Crematory, in accordance with his wishes and Buddhist tradition.
Michael lived with heart, humor, and humility. May his soul continue on its journey with peace, and may his memory be a source of comfort, love, and inspiration to all who knew him.
