Moses Enrique Leiva

Moses Enrique Leiva, age 27, was born Oct 27 1993 in Christ Hospital, Jersey City, NJ and grew up in Bayonne NJ. Beloved son of Mayra Davila, younger brother to Aisling, older brother to Kyra and Leilani, and son of Hector Leiva. He passed away on Friday, June 4th 2021.

Anyone who knew Moses would tell you that he was the most loyal friend you could ever have and a selfless soul. He was stubborn in his opinions, yet always willing to learn. Even at his most irksome, Moses had a cheeky yet charming energy that just made people want to talk to him. He was always happy to talk for hours about the things he loved, as well as listen to others talk about their passions. A loud & proud nerd through and through, at his core Moses was a lover of good stories no matter the medium. Strong as a bear, but with a sensitive and gentle soul by nature, he never tried to cause anyone harm. Moses was at times disarmingly witty when you least expected it, as well as deeper than he let on; except to his closest friends and loved ones.

Moses was the kind of person who went out of his way to never burden others with the shadows in his own life, right to the end. Moreover, he always tried his best to bring laughter and joy into others’ lives, albeit in his own ‘Moses’ way. Which was an acquired yet memorable taste to those who took the time to appreciate his unique flavor of personality. Honest to a fault, and genuine in his care for others, he was the kind of friend you could call at 2am when you felt alone in the world, and he would listen. He wouldn’t judge. He would make you feel wanted. 

At times, Moses seemed almost afraid of being alive, having struggled with mental health and hardship in his life. Yet he existed within each moment, no matter how exciting or mundane, to its absolute fullest. He was the type of person who could make sitting on a front porch and talking under the stars feel like an adventure. Though his own story was cut short, he lives on through the stories and lives of those whom he created bonds of love with in life. He was dearly beloved by both his sisters and his found family.

Memorial service is Friday, June 18, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Riotto Funeral Home & Cremation Company, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd. Jersey City. (For GPS navigation, it is best to use our parking lot address: 14 Stagg Street).
