Murray Greene, owner of the former Hawthorne Paint Company, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in the early hours of June 21, 2026 at his home in Jersey City, NJ. 85 years old, Murray had been battling an aggressive cancer for the last 2 years.

Choosing to specialize in the science of coatings, Murray worked in paint companies for 18 years before founding The Hawthorne paint Company in Hawthorne, New Jersey.
Blessed with good looks, wit, charm and a playful sense of humor, Murray was loved by all who knew him. Murray met Janis, the love of his life, in May of 1966. Instantly smitten, they were married in February of 1967 and have enjoyed 59 happy years together. The couple established a home in Staten Island, New York where they raised their two daughters Lara and Jennifer.
