Nellie Grossi

Nellie Grossi of Jersey City, born in Cuba on June 23, 1957 to Victoria Mendez and the late Alfonso Mendez passed away peacefully on Monday November 9, 2020 in Hackensack University Medical Center. 

Nellie, aka Mom, Nana, Nell, Sis, Tia/Aunt Nellie and Mimi, spent 63 years being the life of every moment. She was loving, selfless, generous, supportive and extremely humorous. Whether she was serving or "counseling" you at The Slope or at Ruesch's deli, she was someone who made everyone feel like family, without question Nelson Avenue will never be the same!  A devoted mother, Nellie leaves to cherish her memory so many that loved her and whom she loved back including; her daughter Allison Calderon nee Grossi, her husband Jonathan, her daughter Laura Grossi, her partner Kevin Ramirez, stepdaughter Linda Winstead nee Grossi (Pharoah), stepson Gerard Grossi, grandchildren Brayden, Landon, Nicholas, Mayriah, Christian and Alex, siblings Alfonso Mendez (Ann), twin sister Maria Elena Roper (Jim), Daniel Mendez, best friend Debra Curran, Erin, Jonathan and Emily Wallentine and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends.

Nellie was predeceased by her husband of 17 years Gerard Grossi, brother James Mendez and long time partner Allen Wallentine. 

The spirit of love and generosity that Nellie projected will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.  She was one in a million and irreplaceable! 

Visitation is on Thursday, November 12, 2020, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at RIOTTO FUNERAL HOME & Cremation Company, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07306.  Cremation will be private.
