Pedro Silva Fernandes

Pedro Silva Fernandes, 82, of Jersey City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on December 15, 1942, in Brava, Cape Verde, to the late Jose Gibau Fernandes and Maria Da Silva. Pedro spent his early years in Brava before moving to Rhode Island in 1966. In 1968, he settled in Jersey City, where he lived for the remainder of his life.

Pedro was a proud member of the DC 9 Union out of New York City and worked for many years as a skilled painter. He was known for being generous, honest, and direct, and carried himself with quiet strength and consistency.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Baptista Fernandes. Cherished father of Joseph Fernandes and his wife Janine, and Peter Fernandes. Loving grandfather of Zachary Fernandes. Dear brother of Beatrice Tavares. He was predeceased by his siblings, John Fernandes, Edgar Fernandes, and Marie Ricci.

Pedro enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He was a dedicated fan of professional wrestling and took pride in his work and family life. He will be remembered for his steady presence and strong work ethic.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Riotto Funeral Home (For GPS, please use our parking lot address: 14 Stagg Street, Jersey City, NJ 07306.) Funeral services will take place on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Paul of the Cross Church, 156 Hancock Ave. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
