JACKMAN, Jr., Peter E. Of Jersey City, NJ, February 15, 2025, age 77. Pete - beloved husband, father, friend, and educator – was born at the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City. He grew up on a dead-end street in North Bergen, NJ. With charm and unrivaled effort, he put himself through Jersey City State College, where he would embark on the two journeys that would mark his life. It was there that he found a love for teaching, and there that he found his other love, his future wife Lorraine. Those would be the foundations to which he devoted the rest of his life.
He lived a life dedicated towards improving the lives of children - as a teacher and later a vice-principal in the West New York public school system, as a mentor, as a sports coach and referee. He changed lives one-by-one. “Whosoever saves a single life,” says the Talmud, “it is counted as if he saved an entire world.” His legacy of touching lives was most evident in his role as a father and grandfather. His love, his support, his pride were and are forever palpable in their lives. It seemed like his post-retirement wardrobe consisted wholly of sweatshirts and ball caps emblazoned with the schools and teams of his progeny. His presence – on sidelines, in phone calls – will be forever missed.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine, his brother Bobby, his children David and Judi-Lynn, and his grandchildren Cole, Lucy, and Matthew. He will be remembered by many more.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, February 22, at St. Nicholas Church in Jersey City. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the V. Foundation for cancer research at 1-800-4JIMMYV or online at www.v.org/donate.
