Philomena "Phyllis" Canzano (nee Dawson), 89, a lifelong resident of Jersey City, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, August 21, 2021,
Born in Jersey City she was predeceased by her parents Marie and Joseph Dawson, her son Albert Canzano, her brothers Joseph and Jerry Dawson and her sister Rose.
She worked for Western Electric for a few years and then various positions in other companies. She loved sitting on the beach and playing the stands on the boardwalk in Seaside. Phyllis also loved to garden, sew and make crafts. Her greatest love was spending time with her family especially her great grandchildren Gianna (Sweetie Pie) and little Danny. Phyllis enjoyed sitting in her yard feeding the birds, squirrels and stray cats that came by for a meal every day. She also leaves behind her cats Happy, Tuffy, Molly and Heidi.
Phyllis was the beloved wife for 69 years to the late Albert J. Canzano: devoted mother of Marie Cutola, Samuel Canzano and wife Diane, Phyllis Wasniewski & her late husband Dennis and the late Albert Canzano; loving grandmother of John, Daniel (Tracy) and Mark Cutola (Lauren), Alex and Joseph Canzano and David (Amanda) Wasniewski; cherished great-grandmother of Gianna and Daniel Cutola; dear sister of Jean Zuzeck and sister-in-law of Adeline Roche. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation is on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM from RIOTTO FUNERAL HOME, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd, Jersey City, NJ 07306. Funeral will begin on Thursday, August 26, 2021, 9:30 AM at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will follow 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Jersey City. Entombment will take place at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org)
