Ramon "Mon" Pasumbal Tolentino Obituary

Ramon Pasumbal Tolentino
“Mon”

Ramon Pasumbal Tolentino, lovingly known as “Mon,” passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, in Pasig, Philippines. He was 81 years old. Born on January 31, 1945, in Rosario, Batangas, Ramon lived a life defined by devotion to family, steadfast dedication to his work, deep friendships, and a joy that could light up any room.

Ramon was the beloved son of the late Dominador Tolentino and Anita Pasumbal Tolentino. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife and high school sweetheart, Dolores Bustamante Tolentino, as well as his siblings Milagros Tolentino Macaisa, Roberto Tolentino, and Raul Tolentino. Though he is now reunited with those he loved dearly, his passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who remain.

He is survived by his devoted son, Raymond Timothy B. Tolentino, who was the pride and center of his world. He also leaves behind his loving siblings Lourdes Tolentino Lim, Rene Tolentino, and Mercedes Tolentino Nacion, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews who cherished their Uncle Mon.

Ramon grew up in Pasay City, Philippines, and was educated at De La Salle from kindergarten through college, earning his degree in Chemical Engineering. During school breaks, he returned to Tiaong, Quezon, where he formed lifelong bonds with extended family and deepened his connection to his roots. It was there that his love story flourished. He married his high school sweetheart, Dolly, who was also from the same province. Together, they built a life grounded in love, loyalty, and unwavering partnership.

He began his professional journey with Lirag Textiles Mills and Lagro before migrating to the United States in 1972 with his family in pursuit of greater opportunity. In Jersey City, Ramon dedicated more than 26 years of service to the City of Jersey City, ultimately retiring as Purchasing Agent. He was known for his integrity, discipline, and quiet leadership, earning the respect of colleagues and community members alike.

An entrepreneur at heart, Ramon also founded DRT Tax Service. The name was deeply personal, representing three generations of family: his father Dominador, himself Ramon, and his son Timmy. The business stood as a reflection of his work ethic, sharp mind, and enduring pride in his family legacy.

Ramon embraced life fully and enthusiastically. He loved to travel and savor good food, with steak and Japanese cuisine among his favorites. Japan was one of the countries he most enjoyed visiting. He found freedom on the open road riding his Low Rider and Triumph Americana motorcycles. He appreciated fine craftsmanship and curated an impressive collection of watches. He was also an avid tennis player who enjoyed both the competition and the friendships the sport brought into his life.

Above all, Ramon will be remembered for his spirit.

He was a natural jokester with an infectious laugh that often arrived before the punchline. Many times he would begin telling a joke and burst into uncontrollable laughter, leaving everyone else laughing right along with him. He delighted in sending funny videos and memes simply to brighten someone’s day. He believed that laughter was one of life’s greatest gifts and he gave it generously.

He loved deeply, worked diligently, and lived joyfully.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made for Masses in Ramon’s name to St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Jersey City.

As we gather, share stories, and look through photographs, Ramon would remind us with his favorite word:

“Smell.”

It was his special way of saying “Smile.”

And so we will.

Because the greatest way to honor Ramon “Mon” Tolentino is to carry forward his laughter, his generosity, and his love for life, and to always remember to “Smell.”
