Rosemarie (Nitto) Silvestri

Rosemarie Silvestri, 75 of Jersey City, entered into eternal life on January 27, 2023 at her home.   Born in Jersey City on March 12, 1947 to the late Anthony Nitto & Eleanor LaBruno, she was a lifelong resident of Jersey City.  She was a graduate of Dickinson High School, Class of 1965 and devoted most of her life to raising her family & volunteering within her parish church of Holy Rosary.  

Rosemarie was a devoted parishioner of Holy Rosary Church, downtown Jersey City.  She was immensely active when her daughters were enrolled in grammar school, serving several times as PTA President and volunteering for innumerable school fundraisers and card party’s. Even after her children graduated, she remained and for several years was involved running the parish Bingo program with her husband, the late Herbie Silvestri.  

Her faith and love of her church brought her to be member of the Rosary Altar Society and worker with the Annual Parish Festival.   For years, her and her husband would shop for food so the parishioners could cook homemade Italian Food to serve patrons.  As the years went by and La Festa grew and the volunteer base dwindled, she found herself working in the Café booth serving coffee and in recent years to the Super 50/50 booth diligently folding each completed raffle ticket, while sampling the many delicacies La Festa offered. 

Outside of her church, she loved to read at home, watch QVC and take advantage of any great offer they had and follow Queen Elizabeth and the royal family.   She was looking forward to watching the Coronation of King Charles.  Atlantic City was an often thought of trip and occasionally a trip to Vegas.   In the end, her greatest devotion of love was spending time with her family and her adored grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbert “Herbie” Silvestri & her brother, Roger Nitto.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children; Lisa Malaquias & her husband, Vincent, Toni Anne Barbito & her husband, Bill & Gina Silvestri, & her beloved grandchildren; Miranda & Emily Malaquias & Joseph Barbito.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Riotto Funeral Home & Cremation Co., 3205 Kennedy Blvd, Jersey City, NJ (for GPS use 14 Stagg Street).

Relatives and Friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, February 1st at 10:45 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 344 Sixth St., Jersey City.   A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.    Cremation will take place privately.
