Dr. Sakillah Nyuma Bondi, an esteemed educator and advocate for change, passed away on February 1st, 2024, in New York City, USA, at age 76. He was a devoted educator and beacon of hope for his Kissi community in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea in West Africa. Dr. Bondi leaves behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and tireless advocacy that will forever shape the landscape of his community.

Dr. Bondi was born in Yendeh Village, Kissi Teng Chiefdom in Kailahun District, in the eastern region of Sierra Leone. He was destined for a life of service from an early age. He possessed an unwavering commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others, a commitment that would define his illustrious career in Education.

Dr. Bondi began his journey in Education over 45 years ago, and he was part of the leading educators who created the esteemed business school in Freetown, Sierra Leone, IPAM – The Institute of Public Administration and Management, rising through the ranks with determination and a steadfast belief in the power of Education and change in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea. He was also a dedicated champion for humanitarian causes, and his work in NGOs took him across the globe, where he touched the lives of countless individuals and communities. His dedication to serving others knew no bounds; and often went beyond to ensure that the most vulnerable populations received the support and assistance they desperately needed. He worked with passion and integrity, championing causes that uplifted the marginalized, empowered the disenfranchised and promoted equality and justice for all.

Throughout his tenure, Dr. Bondi was a voice for the voiceless, fearlessly advocating for educational policies that addressed pressing social, economic, and environmental issues. His leadership inspired hopes and ignited a sense of purpose in the hearts of countless individuals, leaving an indelible mark on the fabric of his community and country.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was known for his unwavering dedication to his family, friends, colleagues, and community. He was a pillar of strength and a source of inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him, demonstrating compassion, empathy, and humility in all his endeavors.

Dr. Bondi is survived by his beloved wife - Mrs. Sarah Bondi. Children: Sia Bondi in the USA, Fayia Bondi in the UK, Dr. Kpallo Bondi in South Africa, Nancy Bondi and Nyuma Bondi in Liberia, Musu Bondi in Sierra Leone, Kumba Bondi in Gambia. Nephews: Philip Tamba James, Emmanuel Bondi, Mohamed Jan Jalloh in Sierra Leone, Niece: the late Kumba Catherine Kamara nee Bondi, in Sierra Leone & many more. His grandkids include Pastor Samuel Mbayo in Minnesota, USA, Mr. Abubakarr Kamara in Boston, USA, and many more worldwide.

His relatives include Sahr Nafiyo Bondi and Nyuma Johnson Focko of Yendeh village. The Kormoh’s, the Nyumas, the Gevaos, the Lamduls, the Sellus, the Lebbies, the Lenors, the Sandys, the Chokpellehs, the Yoolains, the Fombas, and the Ngebas. Mr. Umaru Lamin in Las Vegas, USA, Mr. Mohamed Bayoh in California, USA, Mr. Gba Kamara in Philadelphia, USA, Mr. Tony Tengbeh in New York City, USA; and all the Koindu and Yendeh families in Sierra Leone, and abroad.

He will be deeply missed by his colleagues, constituents, friends, and all who honorably collaborated with him in the pursuit of Education, and justice, and for a better tomorrow.

A public memorial service to celebrate his life and legacy will be held on Saturday, February 24th, 2024, from 9 a.m.– 12 p.m., at the Riotto Funeral Home and Cremation Company, 3205 Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City. Though Dr. Bondi may no longer be with us, his spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched, and the enduring impact he made in our world. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all. Rest in peace, dear Dr. Sakillah Nyuma Bondi. Your legacy will shine brightly for generations to come.
