Simon Mahadeo Lalta, 82, of Jersey City, NJ, passed away on September 8th, 2025.
Simon was born on May 14th, 1943 to Nellie Chantai Lalta and Lalta Seepaul in Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Guyana. Born into a big family, Simon was one of ten siblings. Aspiring to seek higher education, Simon worked his way from a young boy delivering bread to a young man receiving his bachelor's degree from the University of Guyana. After receiving his degree, Simon worked as a teacher and later became a headmaster. He was passionate about education and learning.
Simon met his spouse, Zaireen Lalta, in 1965. They got married a year later and had three boys, Ted, Ron, and Troy. In 1982, Simon and his family immigrated to Jersey City, New Jersey. He received his Master's Degree in Accounting from Saint Peter's College in 1995. And in 1999, Simon and his wife opened their restaurant Nicole's Caribbean Restaurant in Jersey City.
In his retirement, he spent time with his four grandchildren, Gregory, Nicole, Anthony, and Kayla. He encouraged them to read and excel in school, always with a gentle hand on the head.
Simon is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, his brother Ricky, his sisters, Baby Rose, Gladis, Laxcy, and Lorine.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025, 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Riotto Funeral Home & Cremation Company, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ, 07306 (For GPS: it is best to use our parking lot address 14 Stagg St., additional parking lot is located on Kennedy Blvd.) Funeral will begin on Monday, September 15, 2025, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home for a final farewell. Then a 10:30 a.m. religious service at Rosedale Crematory, 408 Orange Rd., Montclair, NJ, 07042. Cremation will follow.
