Socorro Bustillo
"Coco"
Socorro Bustillo, lovingly known as "Coco," passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 6th, 2025. Born on February 5, 1949, in Chichigalpa, Nicaragua. She was the beloved daughter of the late Eva Lagos and Luis Moncada.
Coco lived a vibrant and meaningful life filled with compassion, strength, and joy. Raised in Chichigalpa, she dedicated herself to the care of others, first as the owner of her own hair salon, and later, as a practicing nurse in her hometown. Her passion for serving her community and her love for people shone through everything she did.
Coco was known for her outgoing spirit and magnetic personality. She was the life of every gathering, with a deep love for dancing, singing at local events, and dressing up with elegance and flair. Her creativity extended into doing makeovers for her friends and family — just one of the many ways she shared her love and talent. She enjoyed cooking Nicaraguan dishes, reading, watching soccer, and listening to her favorite music, especially the Beatles, ABBA, Cat Stevens, and the Bee Gees.
Above all, Coco was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her five loving children: Zobeyda, Ivania, Luis, Walter, and Yilber; and her cherished grandchildren: Iovannia Vasquez, Ibrahim Vasquez, Leonthe Barrios III, Bianca Barrios, Alexandra Robelo, Summer Robelo, Eveily Robelo, Luis Robelo Jr., Luveili Robelo, Zobeyli Robelo, and Luis Andrew Robelo. She now reunites in eternal rest with her beloved siblings: Santos Lagos Moncada, Blanca Lagos Moncada, Magdalena Vanegas, and Luis Adolfo Lagos Moncada.
Coco was fearless in standing up for her loved ones and was always the first to offer support, guidance, or a listening ear. Her family was her world, and she dedicated her life to their happiness and well-being.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Christ Hospital in Union City, especially the ICU team on the first floor. Special thanks to Edgar the respiratory therapist, ICU nurses Priscilla, Guadalupe, Jinyun, Lillian, Barbara, and many others whose names escape us but whose kindness will never be forgotten. We are also deeply grateful to Dr. Hennalah, Dr. Elias, Dr. Anan, Dr. Martinez, and her caring pulmonologist. The medical team always treated Coco with deep compassion, dignity, and respect — a reflection of the years they had known her.
We also thank Pastor Jose Cruz for offering last rites in her final moments, and the staff at Riotto Funeral Home, especially Nicole and Richard, for their support and generosity. Sincere appreciation to Hoboken Cemetery and Mr. Epstein for helping find the perfect resting place for our beloved Coco.
Coco’s legacy of love, resilience, and joy will live on in all who were lucky enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
