Susan D’Auria passed away on March 10th, 2021 at the age of 98. The daughter of immigrants, Susan was born in Hoboken, New Jersey to Sofia and Frank D’Auria on August 15th, 1922. Her legal name, Assunta, was given to her because she was born on the Day of the Assumption.
Susan was one of five siblings. The family bonds were strong throughout their lives together. She was a favorite aunt to all of her many nieces and nephews. She was full of life and laughter and always happiest when the family came together.
Her friendships were lifelong. She had childhood friendships that lasted many decades, as she was a very generous and loving friend. Her truest pleasure in life was to be dancing at one of her favorite ballrooms to the music of any of the wonderful big bands popular at the time. She always held a full dance card.
Her work life brought her equal pleasure. She worked for the Alamac Textile Company which later became West Point Pepperell. She spent 35 years working as an Executive Secretary and loved every minute of it. Again, the friendships she made during this time were long-lasting and so meaningful to her.
While she was working, she traveled each year for her vacation and returned with dozens of stories that she would eagerly share with the family around the Sunday dinner table. She loved the adventure of visiting a new place and also loved coming home to her loving family. She was full of joy, loved to laugh and loved a good joke. She was so often able to find joy in a simple moment whether it was a great meal, a great dessert or just sitting in the sun.
In the last years of her life especially, she shared an extraordinary bond with her sister Ann, with whom she shared a home. They were elbow to elbow in caring for each other. They shared love and loss and were always there for each other.
Susan D’Auria is survived by all of her nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren.
