Thalia Makrias, born on January 6, 1947, in Greece, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, in Bayonne, New Jersey.
Thalia was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who cherished her family above all else. She is survived by her loving daughter, Effie Psaros, her son, Stefan Makrias, and her son in law, Nikolaos Psaros. She was the proud and adoring grandmother of Eleftheria Kolokithas, George Psaros, and Stathis Kolokithas, and great grandmother to Areti Kolokithas and Sotiris Kolokithas, all of whom brought her immense joy.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Theofilos Makrias.
Thalia had a deep love for her homeland of Greece, which remained close to her heart throughout her life. She enjoyed traveling and found great peace in nature, often taking in its beauty and quiet moments. A woman of strong faith, she was devoted to her church and found comfort and purpose in her spirituality. She valued her friendships deeply and was known for her warm heart and welcoming nature.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church, Jersey City. A funeral mass will begin at 12:00 PM. Entombment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview.
Thalia will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, and the love she gave so freely to those around her. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
