Tomas Oliveras Obituary

Tomas Oliveras Cornier, age 85, of Jersey City, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

Tomas Oliveras- Cornier was born in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico and was the second oldest of 8 children but took the role of the oldest in the family in helping to raise his siblings after his mother Eva was left widowed at an early age. In 1957 at the age of 19 Tomas enlisted in the United States Army where he served with honor. Upon completing his service , he returned to Puerto Rico where he met his beloved life partner Dolores Alicia Martinez from Yauco, Puerto Rico and they were married in 1963 and eventually had 7 children.

In 1969, Tomas migrated to New Jersey with his wife and children and settled in Jersey City, NJ. Tomas went on to work at Arvey Corporation for 20 years and then become co-owner of Lakewood Tavern in downtown Jersey City.

Tomas cherished simple pleasure such as crabbing, fishing and watching Western movies and Tom and Jerry Cartoons. He was also a proud member of the Salinas Baseball Club. Above all Tomas found his greatest joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He delighted in joining them on the floor for playtime and made Sundays special as a family day whether that meant trips to the lake on Sundays or sledding in Bayonne Park in the winter. Family meant everything to Tomas and his presence will be deeply missed by day all who knew and loved him.

Tomas Oliveras-Cornier is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Dolores Oliveras- Alicea, and their six children: Frances Oliveras-Hernandez and husband Nicolas, Tommy Oliveras and wife Esperanza, Wynda Cordero and husband Julio, Eva DelMonte, Nancy Oliveras, and Olga Torres and husband Carlos. He was predeceased by his son, Braulio Luis Oliveras. Tomas leaves behind thirteen grandchildren: Nicolas, Luis, Jose, Chris, Kristina, Julio, Nicol, Matthew, Andrew, Tomas, Robert, David, and Bella, as well as five great-grandchildren: Mia, Sebastian, Nicolas, Roman, and Miles. He is also survived by his siblings Zoilo Oliveras, Luis Oliveras, Jose (Pepe) Oliveras and Nancy Oliveras, along with numerous extended family and friends.
