Marvin A. Strynar, 85 of Jersey City, entered into eternal rest on July 4th. Born August 30, 1931 in Jersey City to the late George & Ann (nee: Wolen), he was a lifelong resident. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Alaska, where he served on the Ski Patrol Unit. He devoted his life to the education of Jersey City students for 61 years. He was a teacher at PS 22, Assistant Principal at PS 20, and finally, 41 years ago, became principal at PS 37 until his retirement on June 1, 2017. It was he who researched and petitioned to rename PS 37 to Rafael de J. Cordero School in honor of the large Hispanic school population and for Rafael de J. Cordero, because he was considered the “Father of Public Education in Puerto Rico”. Marvin was also an avid photographer, who had his own dark room for developing film. He and his wife Ann, enjoyed traveling & skiing. They drove through every state in the US and Canada. Marvin also had a passion for motorcycles, especially his Harley. He was a member of the NJPSA, ASAJC & the University Club of Jersey City.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann L. (nee: Sporn), his children - Fredric Alan & his wife, Sandra; and Mark David & his wife, Mary. He is also survived by four grandchildren- Rene, Jake, Axel & Ari and a great-granddaughter, Leeda.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 6th from 4:00 p.m. through 7:00 p.m. at the Riotto Funeral Home & Cremation Company (RiottoFH.com), 3205 Kennedy, Blvd., Jersey City, NJ. Graveside services will be held in private. Kindly omit flowers.
